Hi Mom,

I thought I would write and tell you that I just loooooooooove my new mom !

On my first night, I was so happppppy to be out of my crate,I ran around my new home bouncing like a kangaroo and I took the covers off the lounge chairs and dragged them around the place,Ha ha it was such fun,Then I met the ‘pack’ – flip, they are quite a dominant crowd just like me !I was surprised at first when I showed my teeth to one of the fellows, Actually it was a girl that was very fat – her name was Shelby,She put me sharply in my place,I tripped over some old guy – he gave me a warning growl so I growled back,He gave me no chance ‘and said “young man best you behave’ – he growled like a lionI guess he was the ‘big chief’ here – my new human mom calls him Canto. I had a great sleep the first two nights.

On Saturday morning, I woke my new mom up, she was so cool – just gives me losts of kissesAnd hugs and says ‘I’m such a cutie pie’. I ate my breakfast, my mom put me in a car called a ‘bakkie’ – new thing for us French guys,And wow, we went off to have breakfast at a Training Centre for dogs,I tried my best to behave and I concentrated real hard, funny language the South AfricansHave, but my mom speaks good English,,,,,,uh huh I noticed. A big Junior dog came with us, he is Junior but he thinks he is the boss of everyone, Mom said it was good to take him with so we could ‘bond’Don’t know about that – he tries to put my head in his mouth everytime he looks at me, When I growl at him he puts his big paws on my head, stupid jerk !I’m gonna get him yet.

Then we went home after breakfast so I could sleep, I woke up and discovered the creatures in the fieldsnext door, mom said they are donkeys and goats.I barked at them in amusement,Then I had some lunch and slept some more.We had a relaxing evening watching TV – a square box that makes noises but doesn’t move.I tripped over some dogs, most of them ignored me when I did this, only Shelby and Brittney Got annoyed with me, grumpy girls ! I gave my mom a ‘French kiss’ and fell asleep at her feet,

Next day was so cool, I got so dirty that mom had to wash me – I caused a commotion,I jumped out of the bath and water was everywhere ! even my human mom was wet, she was very patient and put me right back in the bath, Then she dried me and put me in a ‘show cage’ next to the old man Canto who also had a bath, I smelt pretty good, like a coconut and vanilla pod, Then we went to Auntie Bronwyn’s home, I met a pretty girl called Lily who played with me,I had some photo’s taken with my new mom and then she kissed me and hugged me again !

By this time Cito and I had started ‘bonding’ and when we arrived home,I had a great time playing with a cute girl called Sugar and Cito joined in – every now and then my head gotstuck in his mouth, but he was very gentle. Once again I went to sleep next to my new mom and one of her favourite old dogs, Tete. I sighed , I like this place ………….it has warmth, with that I gave my mom a kiss goodnight.

One day I will look after her real well but in the meantime she will have to carry onmaking me my baby porridge.

Lots of love

Your Boy,

Targo ‘Child’

Targo and Mom

Mathilde S.

DER PASHA (Targ et Dryade) - vit à Chypre

Hello Benedicte

I hope all is well with you. I was quite impressed by your new website. Well done!

Pasha is growing very well. Every day he getting more mature and his level of communication with us is getting more and more impressive.

I wanted to ask your advise about his protection training. I have a good trainer with whom we are doing bite work development and initiation to protection. We have been doing that for about 1 and a half months now, twice a week. We have reached the point now that Pasha shows us that he can move on to the next step with some real defence work. He bites the arm quite well. He has a stable bite, mostly full-mouth, he can track and find the decoy that is well hidden, he can get into difficult places (with bushes etc) to chase the decoy, he can do a pursue and attack, he can bite and hold even with his feet off the ground, he fights hard to get the sleeve and once he gets the sleeve his attention is on the human, he can watch and guard the decoy and bark at the first move. All this, essentially he is doing in 90% prey drive. He shows us that he has the maturity to be worked in defence drive as well. However, he is a bit young. Generally dogs are worked in defence after the 12th month sometimes after 18th month. I have seen from your website that some of your dogs have got their IPO or have been in police service before 12months.

Pasha is also very good in obedience and he can be self-disciplined. For example he can be at sit and stay when I go away at a distance of more than 100m and out of sight. He can go to his kennel on command even when he wants to be with us outside, the recall is very reliable (95% of the times that I call come from a distance he comes regardless of what he is doing).

I wanted to have your advise from past experience on how quickly Targ’s sons tend to mature and whether you think that it would be fine to go ahead with defence work or wait a bit more.

I hope to have some pictures to send you soon. We tend to do the training early morning or evening and so it is difficult to have somebody else to take pictures of Pasha in action.

With best regards

Nicos
