PASHA 8 mois - vit à Chypre (Targ et Dryade) Hello Benedicte Thanks for remembering us and caring for Pasha so much. He is quite big now. He is progressing with his training very well. We do obedience and continue developing prey drive and bite. In obedience he is very good with all commands sit, stay, down, come, out, fetch. We are at the phase where he obeys from a distance. I can put him on a sit/stay and move away to a distance of more than 50m and command down for example. The recall is quite good. If I am in the house and I call him even without seeing him around, he will run to me whatever he is doing. We gradually introduce distractions so that he can obey without problem in public places, this is what we will be doing the next couple of months. We started the training in our garden, and now we go outside to a nearby quiet street so he gradually gets used to obedience in different places. All of the training is done with positive reinforcement, no compulsion. I train with him every day, and I have a professional trainer that comes twice a week. At the end of obedience session we usually do a bit of bite work. We are working on the long tug and a small bite pillow. In daily life he is a perfect companion. He communicates very well and responds to me very well. For example, “to your kennel” he obeys willingly in the evening even if he wants to continue to stay with us. He waits at doors for me to pass, he knows to wait before crossing the street for my command “let’s cross”, he knows “in the car”. He understands incredible things. For example we may play with a ball, and he may drop it somewhere around the house. I ask him “where is your ball, go get your ball” and he goes looks around and brings it to play together again. To my wife jokingly I call him a magician. One day I was looking to find his ball, he saw me looking and without saying anything he went and brought it to me! His defence drive started to develop as well naturally. When some stranger approaches the gates of our house, he barks at him, and his hair goes up. He has also started to lift his leg up to mark his territory now. His legs are fine, I think I was a bit over-concerned. The thing that I am wondering what to do is with his ankles because a small part of our garden is grass the rest is hard paving and by lying on the hard surface his ankles got a bit hard and a bit red. The vet says it is nothing to worry about, but I wonder if this issue you had it with other dogs. He also likes to put his feet in water all the time to cool down. He goes crazy with water. The best prey item for him is the running water from the hose when we water the garden. Unfortunately it is hot here and keeping his feet wet all the time has a risk of fungi growth. To avoid that I try to take him to the office with me as much as possible to be in the air condition. We typically train/play/eat from 6am until 8am when I go to the office and some days he comes with me. Other days he stays at home with my wife and my other dog. I see him again at 2pm and 7pm when I return home. Weekends we sometimes go to the sea all family. He is a great swimmer. He eats an all natural diet: chicken necks, chicken gizzards, whole chicken sometimes, liver, some beef. A spoonful of cooked mashed vegetables. I add vitamin C and E, omega 3 and some kelp and alphalpha. It is not easy to compare the benefits but I can see his coat and his energy being excellent (eg compared to my golden retriever or other german shepherds here). I will send you some new pictures the nect few days when I download them to my PC. With
bets regards
